The Return of Mr. Tarantino.

Yesterday I saw "Kill Bill Vol. 1" with Jess for free in Bronfman. I must say that it was pretty kick ass. I was really hesitant going in since it was notoriously gory...and I'm not generally a fan of Kung Fu movies. However, I was a big fan of "Pulp Fiction" and had heard rave critical reviews and incredible things about this movie. Plus, it was free.

Holycrap it was good. Mr. Tarantino (and I'm sure the censors played a small part) was merciful and stylized the film so that all the really gory stuff was not as bad as it could have been. So, in scenes where limbs were being lopped off and eyeballs were being yanked out the film would be black and white. Traumatic massacres were anime. Decapitations and spearings were accompanied by overly dramatic fountains of blood that reminded me of an SNL skit I saw once upon a time. I'd like to think that blood does not spew out so profusely when a limb is chopped off.

The only problem was that Jess and I got there a few minutes late and I feel we missed a crucial part of the story. Like, what exactly Uma Thurman is avenging. Yes, I could gather that Bill killed her husband and her unborn child and tried to kill her, but I never grasped why. Someone enlighten me. For now, I'll just assume that she used to work for Bill, but decided to quit and start a new life, but he didn't like that. Like in that show, "Alias". Wait, I've never watched "Alias" so I can't really make that comparison. Never mind.

The best part about watching Kill Bill Vol. 1 yesterday, was that I am now crazy excited to see Vol. 2 which is actually coming out really soon. Yay for not having to wait.

Ooo! I also wanted to say that I watched "The OC" last week and liked it! Yay for an amusing episode! I love Peter Gallagher! So. Much.

Overall Grade for Kill Bill: A
Overall Grade for OC: A

Edited to add: I just watched the trailer for Kill Bill and found that my conjectures about Uma and Bill's respective motives was pretty accurate. Sweet.
